We could not have found a better piano teacher for our daughter! When Joy contacted me via a craigslist search for a teacher, I really had no idea what to expect. My piano teacher growing up was an old lady. What we got was a young, enthusiastic, kind person that truly cares about the quality of her work and who can relate very well to kids the age of mine (8 and 10).
But what we ended up with was much more. Joy is so much more to my daughter than just her piano teacher- she is a wonderful role model for her as well. Her sheer joy for what she does comes out so clearly and so abundantly that it's contagious. And her independence and clear work ethic leaves such a fantastic impression on my kids. She's positive, encouraging, and kind.
She has been extremely easy to work with. Joy has also been very receptive to comments and questions about teaching, methods, and issues. She's ready to lay down the law when necessary, and knows exactly when to pull back on the work. Her lesson plans are always clear and reasonable while at the same time being challenging, and she is able to adapt to any approach that seems to be necessary. I'm always amazed at how well she works with and relates to both her students and parents.
Joy has given my daughter knowledge about how to play the piano that is for certain, but more importantly has instilled in her a certain confidence that I think could only have come through a relationship like this one.

My kids love Joy. She showed an interest in all areas of their lives and worked to make lessons engaging and challenging. They learned technique, style, theory all while enhancing their natural love of music. Even though Joy has moved from Seattle, she is still their favorite music teacher and we would hire her again in a heartbeat if we weren't states apart.

"The Perfect Teacher For Our Two Daughters!"
For kids to learn I believe that 50% of the success rate is if
the kids like the teacher and have a good experience. That is why Joy is so
successful with our two girls. They love Joy and are learning piano at the same
time. She is perfect for teaching kids. Not only is she fun and approachable
for the kids, but she is also very goal orientated, and makes sure that the
kids keep on track. Our two 6 year olds have been taking lessons from Joy for
one and half years, and we are so thankful to have found the right teacher from
the beginning.

Joy teaches my two sons - neither of whom wanted to take piano.
She finds music to suit their individual tastes and style. She's encouraging
and fun and my boys actually like piano lessons now. She has formal recitals
once a year and sometimes records them so they have a CD of their own. She's
